AI is all over the news and many business leaders that I talk to are worried that they’re behind the curve. Staff that I talk to are worried that their jobs will soon be replaced by AI.
AI is great. I use it regularly to help me brainstorm concepts, get the creative juices flowing, and to simplify some mundane tasks. Have great ideas in a Word document and need that converted to a PowerPoint? Great use case. Want some ideas on a byline or slogan for your business? Perfect. Want to summarize documents? Great use case. Want to replace people with AI? It’s not there yet.
Gartner has a great concept called the hype cycle and through 2023 they had AI at the very peak, called the Peak of Inflated Expectations. Which is inevitably followed by the Trough of Disillusionment. I couldn’t agree more. AI will hit its stride and do amazing things, but expectations are not in sync with present capabilities.
We’ve found the most immediate benefit to organizations not from AI, but from process automation. There are great tools from several organizations that allow businesses to quickly automate repetitive tasks and save time, improve quality, and cut costs. We have prove use cases in state government, non-profits, and federal agencies.
